Country Lane's International Fair

Country Lane’s International Fair featured 20 countries! The fair opened with the opportunity to visit booths displaying artifacts from each country’s heritage and to taste samples of food from around the world. During the National Anthem segment of the event, children wore traditional costumes and walked across stage waving their country’s flag to music from their national anthem. The cultural program showcased unique music, dance and art performances, such as students demonstrating Taekwondo from Korea, performing a skit/song from the Republic of Belarus, playing a Guzheng (Chinese Harp), and performing a traditional Japanese dance.

Life is EGGcellent at Latimer!

Last Friday, second graders had their culminating PBL event, EGG stravaganza!  Classes, families, and community members were invited to celebrate all of the learning that occurred during the 12 week PBL focusing on the driving question, "How can we design a safe and appropriate environment for backyard chickens?"  During the course of this interdisciplinary PBL, students learned about the life cycle of a chicken through egg incubation and watching our classroom chickens grow and develop.  There was also a STEAM challenge designing a coop that would provide for the needs of 5 chickens in a backyard environment.  Students designed coops, built models, and reflected on the process.  Second graders learned about the economics of egg farming and the process that eggs go from the farm to the table, read tons of chicken literature, and enjoyed writing fiction starring chickens!  It was truly a learning EGGsperience of a lifetime! ~Helma Lee
