Payne has started a new tradition this year! To support gender inclusion, all students participated in the Fun Run by racing against their entire grade level. Gold, silver, and bronze medals were awarded to the fastest students in each grade. It was a fun afternoon!

Operation: With Love From Home
Payne Panthers donated Halloween candy to our troops! This is through a care package site called Operation: With Love From Home. Kicks for Kids
Branham High School and Del Mar High School put on their annual Kicks for Kids fundraiser. High school students raise money to buy shoes from Payless Shoe Source for Payne Panthers! The high school students "buddy up" with a Payne student to play games, paint faces, and walk to Payless. There, each Payne student receives a free pair of shoes. What an incredible afternoon with some amazing kids!

Mind & Body Wellness Fair
Payne had their first Mind & Body Wellness Fair on May 12th. Over 200 students attended and participated in different activities. Some of the highlights included Bike Rodeo, Mindfulness, Yoga, and the Children's Discovery Museum. All students and families had a wonderful time!

Publishing Party
Payne's 1st graders had their publishing party on May 5th. Students chose a topic they are experts on and wrote a book on it. Informational Writing Books were placed on tables and shared with their classmates. Students read the books and gave each other compliments. There were books about dads, eggs, pets, karate, and animals. The 1st graders were so excited to share their books with everyone!

STEAM Symposium
This year was SCCOOE's 2nd annual STEAM Symposium. Teachers from the area attended a two day workshop that included keynote speakers and breakout sessions. One of the breakout sessions was a trip to Payne's steam lab! Teachers watched a fifth grade class and a second grade class participate in STEAM lessons. Growth Mindset
Payne students have been learning about how growth mindsets can help them tackle challenging tasks. Last week, parents learned about growth mindsets, too! As part of our Payne Parent Workshop series, we provided an overview of Carol Dweck's work around growth mindsets and how to foster these traits in their children. ~Katie Berg

Colonial Day
5th graders at Payne participated in Colonial Day! They wore costumes, played Jacks, made corn husk dolls, and much more. It was so fun to walk around and see the engagement among all the 5th graders!

Wax Museum
Payne 3rd graders held a Wax Museum and invited family, Payne Staff, and District Office Staff. Each student chose a famous person to portray and had a speech prepared. As you can see, these kids really got into character!

5th Grade teachers at Payne spent the morning celebrating students that showed progress on assessments this year! These students were invited to "Breakfast & Brag." What a great way to celebrate their achievements!

Payne's POP Day
Payne had their annual POP (Parents on Patrol) day today! Parents that are normally at work have the opportunity to come into the classroom and help with different activities. Many classes had centers, math activities, art, and STEAM lessons going on.
